Belfast Twilight is collection of short-form poems – haiku, senryu and micro poems – that explore landscape, nature, family life, and memory. Liam Carson takes us from the Troubles in 1970s Belfast to life in squats in 1980s London to today’s Dublin. Presented in haiku sequences, these poems create kaleidoscopic montages that vividly take the reader into various worlds – Belfast’s docklands at twilight; windswept islands off the west of Ireland; riots in Brixton; and the suburban haven of the People’s Park in Dún Laoghaire. Within the sharply observed and condensed form of the haiku, Belfast Twilight delicately unfurls narratives of love and loss; and touch on the redemptive power of being alive in the moment, celebrating the beauty of changing seasons, and the transcendent within the transient.
