Éigse is devoted to the cultivation of a wide range of research on the Irish language and its literature, embracing both textual and contextual studies.

Volume 42 includes contributions on medieval texts and manuscripts, an edition of an aisling poem by Eoghan Rua Ó Súilleabháin and articles on Manx, the modern dialects and lexicographical matters. Contributions in both Irish and English are from established and emerging scholars in Ireland and abroad. Authors include Pádraig Ó Macháin, Aoibheann Nic Dhonnchadha, Bernadette Cunningham, Ksenia Kudenko, George Broderick, Christopher Lewin, Pádraig Ó Siadhail, Máire Ní Íceadha and Noel Ó Murchadha.

Éigse 42 contains substantial review articles on the Annals of Clonmacnoise and official language policy, together with a wide range of reviews on recent publications in Irish language studies.
