Leabhar Mór na nAmhrán (2024 edition)

New Edition of ‘Leabhar Mór na nAmhrán’ with two CDs: ‘Na hAmhráin Mhalla’ & ‘Na hAmhráin Sciobtha’, compiled by Micheál Ó Conghaile.

This new edition of the book contains 400 songs, along with the history of these songs, and now features a selection available on two accompanying CDs.

The songs hail from every corner of Ireland—east, west, north, and south. Each song is presented with extensive background notes contributed by over thirty experts, including scholars and singers, covering details on the origins, composers, the way they travelled through communities, and who still sings them today.

The collection includes short and long songs, slow and fast, old and new. We know the composers of some songs, are uncertain about others, and for many, the origins remain unknown.

This work offers both the expert and the general reader a comprehensive insight into the growth, creation, journey, and ongoing expression of the Irish singing tradition up to the present day.
