Anathomia Gydo is the only surviving medieval surgical text to have been translated into Early Modern Irish. The work consists of thirteen chapters and it follows the order of the original Latin text written by the famous French doctor, Guy de Chauliac (c. 1295-1368). Its modern significance, however, lies more in the socio-historical and lexical information it provides than in its medical content. This is the first time that this work has been edited and made available with an English translation.
